Children’s Pen Pal Project in Uganda

Medina’s letter to her Pen Pal Priska in Uganda.

The School Pen Pal project is a unique experience to connect classes from all over the world with students at our school in Uganda, Pearl of Hope and our neighboring school, WiiLacic. The letters will not only give students a chance to meet students from a different culture than them, it also provides them a chance to see what schools are like all over the world. The connection these classes build can be carried through the school experience, creating a lifelong bond between pen pals.

Teachers will hold the responsibility of their class, and will receive a certificate that helps them document each year that they are a part of the project. The letters will be exchanged once every month, while school is in session. Each month there is a topic provided for the pen pals, which allows them to maintain an educational tone, while also giving them an exciting writing challenge.

Teachers interested in joining this program will be asked to make a one-time donation of $45 per class per year. This money will enable us to assure we have the funds to operate this project. Some of the items needed include: Internet, paper, printing materials, support staff to help the children and transportation to deliver the letters.
